Migori governor Ochillo Ayacko has said attempt by the senate Committee on Finance and Budget to exclude him when they wanted to visit development sites was improper.
Ayacko was speaking when he addressed the committee headed by acting chairman, Kakamega senator Hon. Bonny Khalwale in Migori town on Monday to check on pending bills.
There was a standoff when the senators who had addressed the assembly and paid a courtesy call to Ayacko’s office wanted to head directly to the sites before having a special meeting at Vannah Hotel.
The team wanted to visit Migori County Referral Hospital, Migori Main Market, Kehancha Municipality, Uriri Polytechnic and the ministry of education.
Senators, in our previous video said they did not come to make the governor look bad or undermine and ruled out against Ayacko accompanying them to the sites.
“I was a senator and sat in these committees, we had cases of governors who fled functions then. I am not a fleeing governor, I will be available when visits are made and ensure we get accurate information,” Hon, Ayacko said.
He said when senators wish to accompany themselves with experts he was ready to attend and any notion there was no visit to these sites should not arise.
“Even when we have staff to accompany them we will be there, but as a governor I am the one who took an oath to protect our resources,” Hon. Ayacko said.
He said there are sites where politicians and contractors had organised demonstrations in the past and he had to be there to answer any queries raised by senators because he has a mandate to the people.
“When people raise concerns and I have to address them I will be there because it will not be prudent and fair” he added.
