migori nurses
Migori County nurses have officially called off their strike, ending weeks of disruption in public health services. This development comes after productive talks between the Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Migori branch and the county government, resulting in promises to implement key demands affecting nurses’ welfare and working conditions.
The nurses had launched the strike on August 8, 2025, citing unmet demands including the full implementation of the 2017 Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA), promotion and redesignation, payment of uniform arrears, and the creation of the office of the Director of Nurses.
The prolonged industrial action had severely impacted health services across Migori, with many patients unable to access essential care in county hospitals and dispensaries.

Following intense negotiations, the county government committed to:
- Honoring the 2017 and 2024 salary structures as agreed by the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.
- Accelerating the promotion process and ensuring timely issuance of promotion letters.
- Addressing uniform allowance arrears and other benefits owed to nurses.
- Improving working conditions and health facility service delivery.
Kenya National Union of Nurses Migori branch secretary Ezekiel Mbira welcomed the resolution and thanked the county leadership and stakeholders for responding to the nurses’ legitimate concerns.
He assured residents that health workers were eager to resume full services and provide quality healthcare to all patients.
The strike’s resolution is expected to restore normal operations at facilities including the Migori County Referral Hospital and other public health centers, offering relief to patients and families affected during the shutdown.
This positive outcome highlights the importance of continual dialogue and collaborative efforts between health workers and county governments to ensure sustainable delivery of vital health services in Migori and beyond.
